From the V&A’s Glass Collection I was inspired by a C20th cut glass chocolate jar designed by Josef Hoffmann.

I chose to interpret the jar’s functionality into my love of cooking, making a container for my favourite and most expensive spice, Saffron. I experimented with various surface textures before settling on the battuto (beaten) cut design. The exaggerated lids are intended make the jars less formal and reflect the way we generally entertain these days.

  • Technique: blown, battuto cut and facet polished body, lost wax cast and cut lids and maple wood base.
  • Dimensions: range 9x12 - 8x13cm approx.
